The Group was founded in 1999 by five women (4 British and 1 Austrian), all of whom had had breast cancer. Originally named MARINA ALTA BREAST CANCER SUPPORT GROUP, their aim was to provide support to cancer patients and their families on the Costa Blanca and the Costa del Sol. News travelled fast and the medical profession was soon referring ALL types of cancers to the Group for support, so the name was changed to CANCER SUPPORT GROUP (MABS) to reflect this.

Cancer Support Group (MABS) is a registered charity and is funded from the local community in Spain. We are non profit making group who rely totally on donations and fundraising events, MABS does not receive any financial assistance from local or regional governments. All funds raised by the Mazarrón group remain in the Mazarrón area and are used to help local people at this very difficult time in their lives.

The Cancer Support Group (MABS) Mazarrón offer:-

Ø      Transport to and from hospital/clinic appointments

Ø      Translators

Ø      Patient escorts to hospital and clinic appointments

Ø      Support and befriending to patients and their families

Ø      Leaflets on various types of cancer and treatments available

Ø      Information on where you can obtain assistance in Spain and the UK.

Ø      Information on where you can purchase wigs, prosthesis or medical aids.

The Group also has branches with co-ordinators in Javea, Gran Alacant, Torrevieja , Murcia /Mar Menor, Mojacar and Marbella..
